Zach Braff was born on 6 April 1975 in South Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A. He is the son of Hal Braff, a trial attorney and sociology professor, and Anne Brodzinsky, a clinical psychologist. His parents were divorced during his childhood and both of them re-married. He suffered from obsessive -compulsive disorder when he was ten years old. He attended the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center in his teenage. He later also studied at the Columbia High School in Maplewood and then graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in film.

He worked in the television station of the Columbia High School while he was studying there. He attached himself with Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity as its member, while studying at the Northwestern University. It was once revealed by unnamed sources, (to-In touch Weekly Magazine) that he was engaged to Mandy Moore but Moore’s representative denied the news. After this, he dated with Shiri Appleby, a Roswell star, in 2007.

He had a keen interest towards acting from the days of childhood. He started his career in acting from Public Theatre, New York City where he acted in the stage productions of the Shakespeare’s plays-‘Twelfth Night’ and ‘Macbeth‘.

His first role in a film was for ‘Manhattan Murder Mystery’ (1993). He appeared in a small role in one episode of ‘The Baby-sitters Club’. He appeared in ‘Scrubs‘ as “Dr. John ‘J.D’ Dorian” and earned much recognition for this role. He has also directed some episodes of ‘Scrubs‘. He has also written, directed and starred in the film ‘Garden State‘ (2004).

He lends his voice for the title character of the animation film ‘Chicken Little’ (2005). Some of his other films are ‘Broken Hearts Club’, ‘Blue Moon’, ‘The Last Kiss’, ‘The Ex’ and ‘New York, I Love You’. He has also done voice-over for the video game ‘Kingdom Hearts II’. He directed the music videos ‘Chariot‘, ‘Closer‘, ‘I’d Rather Be With You’ and ‘Superman‘. He has done guest roles in some television series like ‘Arrested Development‘ and ‘Punk’d‘.

He was nominated thrice, for Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for ‘Scrubs‘, from 2005-2007. He won the Grammy Award for the Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media for ‘Garden State‘. He also earned a nomination for an Emmy Award -2005 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for ‘Scrubs’. He has earned nominations, in vivid categories, for different roles. He has also won various other awards (mainly for ‘Garden State and for ‘Scrubs’) over the past years.

He develops a close friendship with “Dr. Elliot Reid” and fell in love with her. However, “Dr. Elliot” is committed to “Sean“. When she comes to know about the love of “Dr. John” for her, she leaves “Sean” for him. On the other hand, “Dr. John” realizes that he no longer wants to be with her, this was very heart breaking incident for “Dr. Elliot”. Later they reconcile their relationship with no romantic feelings. More recently, it has been hinted that the two have re-kindled their love for each other.
