Sarah Chalke was born on 27 August 1976 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is the daughter of Angie and Douglas Chalke. Her parents are attached to an adoption agency that deals in the adoption of foreign orphans by the Canadian families. She is the fiancée of Jamie Afifi, an attorney. She is well versed in English and German and can speak French fairly well. She has studied at the Handsworth Secondary School, North Vancouver. She has many hobbies like cooking, playing guitar, hiking, skiing etc. She is quite active in creating awareness for breast cancer among women, having already lost her grandmother and aunt to breast cancer. She has acted in a movie ‘Why I Wore Lipstick To My Mastectomy’. Audrey Hepburn Children’s Foundation has her as its ambassador.

She began to act at the age of eight at the musical theatre productions. She appeared as a reporter in the children’s show- ‘KidZone‘ when she was 12 years old. She made a cameo appearance in an episode of ‘Roseanne‘ and has also appeared as “Becky Healy” in the series. She moved back to Canada and had a chance to act in CBC television drama -‘Nothing Too Good For a Cowboy‘ (1998-1999). She appears in the role of “Dr. Elliot Reid” in the comedy series ‘Scrubs‘ which airs on NBC. She has acted in several episodes of ‘How I Met Your Mother’. She has acted in the films ‘Earnest Goes To School’ and ‘Cake‘. She has done commercials for a line of women’s underwear by Hanes. She appeared in a number of TV movies like ‘City Boy’, ‘Woman On The Edge’, ‘Dead Ahead’, ‘Dying To Belong’, ‘Daughters’, ‘Channel 101′, etc.

She was awarded the Innovator Award at the TV Land Awards -2008 for ‘Roseanne‘.
